The changing grocery business in Wichita Falls is about to change again.
The changing grocery business in Wichita Falls is about to change again.

Back in September, the Idaho based Albertson's announced it was purchasing Texas based United Supermarkets.

Now, as a result of that deal, Albertson's has announced it is selling its Wichita Falls store to family owned Lawrence Brothers Supermarkets based in Sweetwater.

An Albertson's spokesperson tells us one of the conditions set by the Federal Trade Commission for the United takeover was to sell its stores in Wichita Falls and Amarillo.

With the purchases, Lawrence Brothers will have about 20 stores in Texas and New Mexico, mostly small towns including Knox City, Munday, and Seymour.

The new stores will become their biggest markets.

The Albertson's spokesperson says the Wichita Falls Albertson's will close January 12.

We were unable to contact Lawrence Brothers President Jay Lawrence on a date for the new store opening.
