Day for Kids - 14th Annual Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids slated for September 20, 2014 at the Central Boys & Girls Clubs at 1318 6th street. Day for Kids is open to the public and seeks to encourage parents and guardians to spend quality time with their children throughout the year. All events are free to the public! Registration for the Optimist Club’s Tri-Star Football Contest will begin at 9:00 a.m. Contest will begin at 9:30 a.m. Other activities offered include carnival-style games/contests; face painting, recreational as well as educational events. Activities will begin at 9:00 am and will continue until 11:30 a.m. Hot dogs, chips, & soft drinks will be provided by the Elks Lodge beginning at 10:45am.
Cancer Kicking Crafter's Faire - There will be a benefit craft fair held at the Iowa Park RAC on September 27 to raise money to help Cheryl Roberts and her family pay for the mounting medical costs arising from her battle with aggressive breast cancer. We are still seeking vendors for this indoor event. Booth rent is $25 for a 6 foot table or a round table and $30 for an 8 foot table and you can utilize the space around your table as you need. Vendors: your booth rent is your donation. All proceeds are yours to keep! There is no door charge. Entry is free to all! Come on out and shop with us and help us help this deserving family!
Teens Make a Difference - A time to make a difference in your community and yourself by taking your own time and volunteering with other teens and adults. First time ever that we have opened up the ENTIRE month of October for projects to be completed. That way ones that have not been able to participate before will have a chance to take part this year.
Oktoberfest - Oktoberfest is a family friendly street festival in Southlake's Town Square featuring the wildly popular wiener dog races, German food & beer, arts & crafts, kid's play area and a sports zone with a jumbotron. Their is live entertainment throughout the 3 day event. Admission is free. Tickets are available for food, drinks and the kid's area. Oktoberfest begins Friday evening at 5:00pm-11:00pm,and runs through Saturday 10:00am-11:00pm, Sunday from 12:00pm-5:00pm.
Calle Ocho 2014 - Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative presents Calle Ocho 2014 Wichita Falls, TX - Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative was established with a strong commitment to provide the Hispanic community an opportunity to actively participate in the evolution of a greater Wichita Falls. Since its foundation in 2002, Zavala has hosted a wide variety of cultural and educational activities including the Hispanic Leadership Banquet, Calle Ocho Latin Festival, and Las Posadas. In addition, Zavala is partnering with Café Con Leche, promoting a culture of high expectations and the importance of post-secondary education. On October 4, 2014, Zavala will host the 2014 Calle Ocho Latin Festival at the downtown Farmers’ Market, corner of 8th and Ohio. The event will feature Latin dishes, music, children’s educational activities, games, folklore dancers, the 2nd Annual Día de los Muertos Fun Run, and a Salsa Dance Competition. Proceeds of the event will be help support educational activities in the local Hispanic community including providing students with scholarships to attend colleges and universities. With great pride and dedication, Zavala continues its commitment to preserve the unique cultural gifts of the Hispanic Heritage and to empower the Hispanic community to become fully engaged in overall community opportunities and challenges. 15th Annual Sunrise Haunted House and Zombie Hunt - A fundraising tradition for local High School clubs that staff multiple rooms of the Haunted House and a Zombie Hunt where participants shoot Zombie's from a tractor pulled hay ride. Location is at the Sunrise Optimists Girls Softball field adjacent to the football stadium.
