Fit Moms-to-Be

Maintaining a regular exercise routine during pregnancy is good for both mother and child.

 Dr. Bart Spencer, an ob-gyn says generally moms-to-be can and should walk, do mild aerobics and maybe even some light weight lifting.

 Always talk to your doctor to find out what's right for you.

 You will gain weight, but how much is healthy?

 Dr. Spencer says, "Generally speaking 20-30 pounds weight gain is ideal.  If you're overweight you can gain less, if you're underweight you can gain more."

 After the baby is born, when your body is ready, get active again!

Dr. Karen Ayer is a pediatrician and a mother of 3.

She says, "Anyone who's been a parent to a young child knows being active is a large part of it because you have to run and chase them and pick them up."

 Bring your baby along, grab a stroller, go for a walk in the mornings or evenings. Keep those healthy habits as your child grows.

 Dr. Ayer says, "Children who have active fit parents are more likely to be active fit parents themselves, and grow up to be active."

Working off your baby weight may be frustrating but Dr. Spencer says, "It's taken you 9 months to put on weight. Give yourself at least 9 months to a year to get it off. "
