Are You Up-To-Date on Your Insurance Policy?

With the threat of severe weather in the area, insurance agents say now is the time to review your policies. They say it's always better to make sure you have the coverage you want before disaster strikes. And people often forget to cover things like sheds and storage areas. Many times homeowners will stick these external buildings on their property but forget to tell their insurance agents about the new structure. So when they become damaged by Mother Nature, usually only up to 10 percent of it is covered by the homeowners policy.
And as for your vehicles, insurance will cover weather related damages such as hail, but agents say always make sure you know what your deductible is, and protect your car any time possible.
"It would be a good idea to call your insurance agent find out what your deductibles are and if you have coverage. You can't wait till the storm is right on you to call and add coverage if there is a watch or warning. We are not allow to change coverages during that time," said insurance agent Morris Stone
Stone says from last weeks tornados in the Metroplex he's already filed a handful of claims on damaged homes and vehicles. Since we've had a mild Spring here in Texoma, he's not seen many weather related claims filed. But again, Stone does say always make sure you have the type of policy and coverage you want in place before the storm strikes.
