Avid Pilot Dies in Crash in Breckenridge

The pilot of a vintage World War II airplane is killed this afternoon in a crash south of Graham.
It happend around 2pm, just after take off at the Stephens County Airport, near Breckinridge.
Department of Public Safety officials say the Grumman F8F Bearcat Fighter plane barely made it off the runway
before hitting the ground and bursting into flames.
77-year-old Howard Pardue, from  Breckenridge and Houston was pronounced dead soon after.
Pardue actively flew the Bearcat Fighter in airshows all over the country.
He had been an aerobatic performer and racer in his plane and others for many years.
