The work has to be done so the City can move onto phase two, which consists of building a new terminal.
City leaders said they're excited to get the project started, and use local contractors to get the job done.
"If we can keep local subcontractors involved at the local level, that's an opportunity to invest back into Wichita Falls," said John Burrus, Director of Aviation, Traffic and Transportation, "the second thing is it creates an opportunity for entry ways into our community."
Burrus said work on the new parking lot should start later this month, but it will be 2015 before the new airport terminal is complete.
