When Big Tex burned last year, it was heartbreaking for all the fans of the Texas State Fair whose childhood memories were connected to the sound of that big booming voice greeting visitors.
Now, to add more misery to the loss of Big Tex is news that state fair officials have decided not to renew the contract of Bill Bragg, the man who became the voice of Big Tex nearly a dozen years ago.
According to a fair spokesman, the voicing contract for Big Tex is for a paid position for the 24 days of the fair.
Of course, by this year's state fair, there will be a new and improved version of Big Tex.
It will stand 55 feet tall, which is 3- feet taller than the original.
