Tuesday many residents said it's time for a change.
"I think it would be nothing but a win-win situation, it'd be an assett to the economy of Burk. Our children will enjoy it from all levels," said Sue Waddell, the Director of Little World Learning Center.
Waddell said her kids love going to splash parks, and Burk is losing out.
"I'm kind of the one who just brought it before the City Council, not even knowing what I was doing," said Debbie Graham, a proposal which voters let sink in 2010.
"But nobody knew what the splash park was two years ago," explained Graham, "now a lot of people know."
At a special meeting of the Burkburnett Development Corporation, members voted 5 to 1 to set aside $30,000 to fund a park design and impact study.
Supporters said Burkburnett can learn from the splash parks in Vernon and Iowa Park.
"They're both self sustaining, they both cover their operational costs," explained Burk City Commissioner Randy Brewster,"I know that's going to be a concern and both those parks are doing very well."
The money to pay for the study comes from the BDC's Quality of Life Fund.
"$30,000 is a significant amount of our budget," said BDC President Keith Myers, "so don't feel like we take this decision lightly because in our yearly operating budget. That's a significant amount."
While an exact location of where the splash park would go still has to be worked out, there is growing support for putting it next to Friendship Park and maybe bull-dozing the old Burkburnett pool and build the new park in its place.
Supporters said that would offer a prime and central location for Burkburnett to come together, and help cut down on all those trips out of town.
Reporter's Notes by Ryan Robertson:
Now that funding has been set aside, Burkburnett City Leaders will wait for proposals to come in, before deciding which architecture firm will carry out the study.
