A vote from this morning's Wichita Falls city council meeting could open the door to new development.
Sam Cruse, who owns land at the northeast corner of Henry S. Grace Freeway and Midwestern Parkway East, asked the city to change the designation of a portion of Midwestern Parkway.
City officials say  changing how that section of road is classified -- from a major to a minor artery --  will make future development less expensive by reducing the amount of land needed for right of way and easements.

"The mayor and his fellow council members, I think, showed great wisdom today -- they are pro-business - they are pro-development.  And it doesn't matter who you are, what part of the city you're in. They're for growth. And I think that's who really won today, is the city of Wichita Falls."
Cruse says future  possibilities for the land  include  commercial development such as a hotel or restaurant and also residential.
He says he plans to develop some of the land ... and sell some of it.
