A good samaritan is recovering in a local hospital after his vehicle was hit by a train.

Fifty-six year old Stephen Benham is in the intensive care unit at United Regional.

According to his daughter, Behnam is in serious condition with several cracked ribs, a broken ankle, several fractured vertebrae, a fractured sternum and a punctured lung.

This accident, last night near Highway 287 and Anderson Road in Clay County, is where Benham received those injuries.

D.P.S. troopers say he had hooked a chain to a gray car to pull it off railroad tracks around 9:30 last night, but before he could finish the task a train struck the passenger side of his truck.

Benham, who is being called a hero, was taken to Clay County Memorial Hospital then transferred to United Regional in Wichita Falls, where tonight he remains in the ICU.
