Shooting at Maurine Street Apartments now a homicide investigation

WICHITA FALLS - A shooting at the Maurine Street Apartments in Wichita Falls near Hirschi High School and Kirby Middle School is now a homicide investigation.

The call came in shortly before 8:45 p.m. Monday night and cops were talking with neighbors.

When officers arrived they found an unresponsive black male lying on the ground.  They said he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital by AMR.

The victim was identified as 29 year old Shannon Smith of Wichita Falls.

WFPD Detectives were called to the scene and began their investigation.

Smith died from his wounds.  His body was sent off to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

If anyone has any information regarding this crime are encouraged to call the police or Crime Stoppers at 322-9888.

Crime Stoppers is running a Fresh 48 on the homicide. If you have any information, you could earn an additional $500 if your tip leads to an arrest before or on Thursday, you can also get an additional $200 until Jan. 9 for tips on other Felony crimes.
