Firefighters continue battling two grassfires burning east of Possum Kingdom Lake, but officials say several hurdles are making those fires much harder to contain.
The two fires are burning near the intersection of State Highways 254 and 16, west of Mineral Wells.
And Texas Forest officials believe they were sparked by lightning.
Volunteer fire crews, as well as members of the Texas Forest Service have fought the Dark Valley fire, which had scorched nearly 500 acres and the Rhodes Ranch 2 fire, which had destroyed 780 acres.
But crews say this morning, a shift and increase in wind speed and low humidity caused the fires to spread.
Crews also say much of the air support used to help fight the blazes have been reassigned to wildfires in Arizona, California and other western states.
So far, officials say the Dark Valley fire has grown to more than 1,800 acres and has decreased to only 25% containment.
And the Rhodes Ranch 2 fire has jumped to 1,400 acres and is also 25% contained.
