It happened early Tuesday morning.
The killer took the life of a husband and father, a son and brother.
Those family members aren't giving up on justice and closure.
Renique Mays/David Mays' wife: "They destroyed my family. They destroyed my family. They destroyed my family."
It was around 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29th, that a man wearing a ski mask forced his way into a home in the 1000 block of Woods.
Officers say that man got into an argument with David Mays, with Mays' kids and wife in the home.
Officer Robert Woodruff/W.F.P.D. : "The wife did hear it. She came out of the bedroom, and she was told to go back into the bedroom, and she did."
That's when Mays was shot and killed with a possible handgun.
Renique: "With all his heart, he loved his family. He loved his family, and his family loved him."
After the shooting, the suspect took off back out the front door, ran out toward the street, and jumped into a dark blue, 4- door, older model sedan. He took off east toward Holland. By then, though, the family says he'd already taken their everything.
Calthreen Mays/David's Sister: "Everybody loved my brother. Everybody loved my brother. So, for whatever reason this person had it in his heart to take his life, the only thing that could bring us peace and closure is to see this person brought to justice, and to pay for the crime he's committed. That's the only thing that will bring peace to our family."
Officer Woodruff: "They want justice, and as the police department, that's what we want to provide for the family, and not just to the family, but to the community. I mean, this guy needs to be taken care of, and taken off the streets and put in jail."
Renique: "I'd be greatly appreciative if they come forward with anything, anything might help."
The suspect is described as a black male, who was last seen wearing a ski mask, dark pants, and a dark hoodie.
