Encouraging students to read is what Lynda Petty has loved about teaching at Crockett Elementary for 21 years. The Archer City native has taught in Wichita Falls for 40 years ... at Hirschi High School, Kirby Junior High, with the last stop being Crockett. After graduating from Midwestern State University, the former basketball coach began teaching in 1972, where her life long adventure of being a teacher began. She says the lack of school funding was a factor in her decision. Despite retirement, Petty plans to come back as a substitute teacher when she's not gardening, fishing and as she calls it "having a good time at life". Along with a retirement parade, Petty received a certificate from the Mayor of Wichita Falls declaring today Lynda Petty Day.
