Teresa Speir was reported missing after she did not show up to work at the EZ Go off I-44 and Walters.
State and local officials are releasing few details about the case because they say there is still a lot of work left in the investigation. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Sheriff's Deputies were out Thursday collecting evidence in the secluded area where Speir's body was located. No murder charges have been filed yet.
Friends and neighbors of Teresa Speir say she was a loving, hard working mother who'd do anything for her children, Amanda and Chris McCombs. And her big heart reached out to all members in the community and even to dozens of stray dogs she took in.
"Teresa was an alcohol and drug counselor and she had AA here and my husband is a recovering alcoholic and she counseled with him on numerous occasions," said friend of Speir's Rachel Berry of Grandfield.
After news spread through the towns of Grandfield and Devol, it left many people asking one word, why?
"That's the general feeling everyone one that you talk to, they just don't understand why. They just can't see a reason for it. Who could she be a threat to?" said Berry.
Investigators found Speir's body Thursday afternoon after serving a search warrant on the property of David Daniel. The body was found about 100 yards west of his trailer, which is down the road from Speir.
No suspect has been charged with murder at this time, however Daniel is in the Cotton County Jail on a charge of petty theft out of Tillman County.
"The investigation is an open investigation and we are following leads right now so we don't want to focus on any one individual necessarily, we have to go where the evidence take us," said Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Jessica Brown.
The Daniel family already has a strange history in the area. Daniel's brother Daryl was sentenced to prison after killing his father Donald and shooting his brother David 3 times in 2006. And then last year, David reported he had been shot in the head in his home, he drove himself to Wichita Falls for treatment.
Neighbors says since those incidents many have felt uneasy about David Daniel. But the main concern now is for the family of Teresa Speir.
"It was very overwhelming and sad. The kids they are real strong children and they got a lot of support from the community and the family. I hope it continues to be that way for them," said Berry.
If you would like to help with Teresa Speir's funeral, an account at First Bank of Wichita Falls has been set up under her name. The money will go toward funeral expenses and to benefit her two children, Amanda and Chris McCombs.
