When first responders arrived at Highpoint Village Apartments on Professional Drive, they found the girl hanging by her neck on a rope. Police say the girl had been playing with a jump rope on the equipment, and became entangled. First responders cut the girl down and rushed her to the hospital, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
A neighbor at the complex says the girl was a frequent visitor to the playground, and was playing with another child at the time of the accident.
Resident, Lakisha Johnson, says, "It was just like an ordinary day. I see her all the time here playing. It was nothing strange or out of the ordinary."
Police say no foul play is suspected, but there will be an autopsy as standard procedure.
