Health Department Sees an Increase in Flu Cases

If you've been feeling achy or feverish, you're not alone. Officials with the Wichita County Health Department say they've been seeing an increase in numbers of flu like cases in the last few weeks. And they continue to urge anyone who hasn't already received their flu shot to get one. The Health Department says area schools and hospitals report to them on a weekly basis the number of flu like illnesses, and in the last two week those numbers are up.
"Usually it's been we start increasing late January early February it's delayed a little bit this year. In fact our increases have only really started probably in the last 2- 2 1/2 weeks, but they are going up now," said immunization charge nurse, Kay Sabine.
Sabine says they still have plenty of vaccinations available for anyone still wanting to prevent getting the flu. The shots are available Monday through Friday from 8 to 4:30. For more information contact the Health Department at 761- 7800.
