ELLIS JOINED THE ARMY AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AND WENT TO BOOT CAMP IN MINERAL WELLS FOR JUST 13 WEEKS BEFORE HE WAS SENT TO GERMANY, BELGIUM, AND FRANCE.

ELLIS FOUGHT IN THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE AND WAS HOSPITALIZED IN ENGLAND WHEN HE CAME DOWN WITH JAUNDICE. WHEN HE WAS RELEASED HE SAYS HE NOTICED SIGNS WITH THE LETTERS V-E ON THEM. HE HAD TO ASK WHAT THEY MEANT AND WAS TOLD IT MEANT VICTORY OVER EUROPE AND THAT THAT WAR WAS OVER.
