Larry Nash Scores Spirit of Texoma Award

Larry Nash, better known to many as Coach Nash, has been calling the plays for basketball, football and baseball teams through Upward Bound, Boys and Girls Club,
YMCA and Wichita Falls High School for ten years.
That's a lot of years of coaching, but it is his commitment to mentoring both on and off the court, or field, that made giving him
this month's Spirit of Texoma Award a win-win for everyone.
Larry Nash says, "To have a job to do what I really love to do is truly a blessing."
Nash is referring to his labor of love as the coordinator at the Martin Luther King Center.
Nash explains, "I'm very community minded, being a citizen from Wichita Falls I know alot of things we need and the things we lack in the community and if I can help
in those capacities I always try to give back and help."
At the Center Larry is feeding that need with food for families at Thanksgiving and when it's back to school time he organizes school supplies drives.
Nash had this to say about his efforts, "Those activities are activities in which I feel like I can help the young people get the things they need to be successful in life. This is the type of place that helps people daily and that is one of the things that drives me the most."
That drive has motivated Larry to help out many folks out in the community throughout the years as well.  He's recruited funds for the United Way, volunteered with the Red Cross and worked with the Nonprofit Center Board.
Nowadays Larry stays busy on the boards of The Kitchen, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Early Headstart Program.
He encourages others to give by saying this, "I think as long as you can give, you should give.  So my goal in being a community member is to always be involved and to always give back."
Each year the center gives back big, Larry helps organize the Martin Luther King Junior Prayer Breakfast, a tribute to King, that also raises thousands of dollars in youth scholarships.
Something Larry says is key these days, "I feel like our youth right now it is the most challenging time ever to be a young man or young lady."
Larry is also behind the developing and running of a program called Back to the Basics.  This unique program teaches kids things such as how to light a grill and cook hotdogs, do routine car maintenance and how to tie a neck tie.
This is why he is so dedicated to this cause, "I do all those things just so I can remain connected with the young people and also make sure they know they have somewhere to come in times of need."
Larry is connected to our future, because he's more than a Father to three, or a man who runs the Center, also known as Coach Nash...he's a mentor who truly has the SPirit of Texoma.
Owens and Brumley Funeral Homes congratulate Larry.
If you know someone who deserves this award, nominate them now!
