Law Enforcement Stepped Up for BUI's this Holiday Weekend

Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer and officials are stressing the need to be safe out on the water. Officials have a zero-tolerance policy for Boating Under the Influence, and they're stepping up patrols order to prevent any accidents.  Game Wardens from Wichita and Clay County have been out at Lake Arrowhead, keeping an eye out for boaters on the waters this weekend and making sure everyone stays safe.
"Last year the visitation was down quite a bit so we didn't see, we didn't do a whole late a patrol out on the water. The Game Wardens do most of that. They had some last year, but I imagine they will have more this year," said Keith Gauthier, Assistant Park Superintendent.
The penalties for Boating Under the Influence of alcohol can be just as steep as drunk driving.  Law enforcement says, fines can range from $500 to $7,500 for a conviction.
