20 Teachers Named 2013 West Foundation Teaching Excellence Award Winners

Congratulations to the following 20 teachers who were named 2013 West Foundation Teaching Excellence Award winners. These outstanding teachers will be recognized at a dinner on Monday, September 23 at 6:30pm at the Wellington Banquet Center. The award, established in 1983, is a local honor with a monetary award funded through the generosity of the West Foundation. The West Foundation has awarded 600 teachers for teaching excellence in the classroom since the inception of the award.

Amy Gilleland-Scotland Park, 3rd grade Self Contained
Rickey Santellana-Southern Hills, 5th grade Social Studies
Lori Pitts-West Foundation, 4th grade Reading & Social Studies
Jayne Gregg-Barwise, 7th grade PreAP English Language Arts
Laura Mayfield-Kirby, 7th-8th grade English
Susan Cotton-McNiel, 7th grade Math
Micky Miller-McNiel, 7th grade PreAP Texas History
David Cavitt-Hirschi, 9th grade Algebra I

These teachers were nominated by their principals, reviewed by an anonymous committee and selected for the 2013 West Foundation Teaching Excellence Award.

Selection criteria includes:

*No quota by faculty, grade level, subject taught, sex, religion or race.
*Eligibility does not require any number of years of teaching experience either in the WFISD or elsewhere.
*There is no limit on the number of times a teacher may receive the award; however, no one can expect to be an annual recipient.
*Recipients are to be of high moral character, have a positive attitude, dedication, poise, and exhibit enthusiasm, as demonstrated by pupil achievement, pupil response and parent-pupil-colleague respect.
*Recipients must make an on-going effort at self-improvement and continuing education.
