2012 NFL PPK Competition

Football season is in full swing and as most coaches will tell you it's a game of skill.

But not all players get a chance to hone those is kills individually in a game setting

But that's exactly what kids were doing out at memorial stadium today.

Dozens of area athletes participated in today's Punt, Pass, and Kick competition hosted by Wichita Falls Parks and Rec.

And while the competition was tough today focused more on the tradition of the game.

After one deep breathe, he makes his kick.

8 year old David Day is just one of the more than thirty competitors in this years NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition showcasing the skills needed to play one of the nation's most popular games.

"It's football. It's fall season everybody loves coming out and compete and they get to compete against kids their own age and, ya know it's a great environment," said Travis Pence, from Wichita Falls Parks and Rec.

Pence says Wichita Falls has been holding the event since the early 80's.

A tradition which David's father remembers quite well.

"My dad brought me out kind of against my will but it kind of changed my life for me a little bit," said Michael Day.

Day won his the 12 year-old age group when he competed years ago.

And now it's his son's turn.

"He has a competitive nature about him, I don't know I think that came from his mom. But he just has a nature about him that he loves to compete every chance he gets," he said.

But win or lose Day says David won't be disappointed because in the end all of them are "all winners."

Today's competition wasn't just for the boys, two girls participated in the older age groups.
