37th Annual Great American Smokeout Week

Students at a Wichita Falls junior high school showed off their healthy lungs this morning in support of the 37th annual Great American Smokeout Week.

This morning Barwise Junior High students made some noise during a presentation by the American Cancer Society. MSU students were also on hand and challenged students with smoking trivia. They also invited students on stage to participate in a Zumbathon, because increasing daily activity decreases one's dependence on cigarettes.

Statistics from the American Cancer Society show at least three million adolescents are smokers. Officials say they want to curb that statistic, and help everyone quit smoking.

In conjunction with the Great American Smokeout Week, The Midwestern State University Respiratory Care Association is hosting a color run at Sikes Lake. Start time is 5 P.M. Thursday and the entry fee is just 20 dollars. Sign up for the run starts at 4 P.M. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and the MSU Respiratory Therapists Association.
