A Lawton Man Sentenced to Death for the Murders of a Cache, OK Couple

In Lawton, a man found guilty in June of murdering a Comanche County couple in 2009 was sentenced to death on Monday afternoon.

Mica martinez is set to die by lethal injection after being found guilty on two counts of first degree murder for the deaths of 55-year-old Martha and 64-year-old Carl Miller.

Martinez was also convicted on one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Comanche County District Judge Mark Smith set the execution date for Sept. 30 at McAlester State Prison but the date will likely change due to appeals from the defense.

The victim's family says the process has been long and at times unbearable and says justice won't be served until his death sentence is carried out.

"Just glad the jury, and the judge, the prosecutor and everybody did their jobs and we got the right sentence for what happen," Carl Miller, the Miller's son says. "I'm not taking away anything from his family. It's not his family's fault that this happened. It's his fault but this is what he deserves."

In 2009, Martha and Carl Miller were killed at their home off Highway 115, south of Cache, Oklahoma.

Both died in the hospital following the attacks.

One of their sons was also attacked, but was able to call 911 and restrained Martinez until help could arrive.
