The community rallies behind a Wichita Falls police officer who's battling cancer.

Hundreds of hungry Texomans descended upon the Wichita County Courthouse lawn to show their support for R.W. Smith.

Smith has been with the Wichita Falls Police Department for more than 30 years.

He was promoted to captain in 2006.

He's worked in almost all departments including criminal investigation, SWAT, and he also commanded the North Texas Regional Drug Task Force.

Members of the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association, Wichita County Sheriff's Posse, and the Wichita Falls Firefighters Association teamed up Wednesday to flip burgers and grill hot dogs.

Fundraiser attendees could buy a plate full of food and all of that money will help Smith with his mounting medical bills.
