Two people were hurt and a woman is killed in a one car crash in Quanah early Friday morning and now authorities there say they are investigating whether alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
It happened about 2 Friday morning on Highway 6 on the south side of town. Hardeman County Chief Deputy Paul Nix says a silver Ford Mustang ran off the road, became airborne, and hit a utility pole, snapping it in half.
Nix says the vehicle then hit a tree and landed in a ditch.
Authorities say 20-year-old Brandon Leija is believed to have been driving the Mustang and 19-year-old T.J. Coley was riding the front seat. Both are believed to have been wearing their seat belts.
Twenty-two-year-old Sage Marines was in the backseat and died in the crash. Nix says she didn't appear to have a seat belt on. All three are from Quanah.
Officials say Coley was taken to a Lubbock hospital by medical helicopter and Leija was taken to United Regional here in Wichita Falls by ambulance. Officials say Leija has been treated and released. Coley's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
While the crash remains under investigation, Nix says open beer cans found on the scene lead them to believe, at the moment, that alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.
