Fifty-year-old Cary Lee Bailey is charged with strangling his Allred cellmate to death. Under Texas law, killing another inmate qualifies as capital murder.
Prison officials say on April 21st, 2011 Bailey told guards he had killed his cellmate, 43-year-old Douglass Bridewell. Allred personnel found Bridewell unconscious on the floor of his cell and attempted to revive him. He was later pronounced dead in the prison infirmary.
Bridewell was serving life for aggravated sexual assault in Dallas County.
Bailey was sentenced to life for the stabbing death of a fellow inmate in 1991 during an argument over a loud television. Officers say he also attacked two other inmates with a metal-filled sock.
