Allred Unit on Lockdown After Stabbing Incidents

- UPDATE: Parts of the Allred Unit are back to normal after the stabbing of two correctional officers earlier this week.

Jason Clark with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice says only 430 inmates remain on lockdown.

He says those are medium-custody offenders who are housed in the area where the stabbings happened.

Clark says a group of inmates stabbed a correctional officer with two prison-improvised weapons.

When additional correction officers tried to help, Clark says one of them was stabbed in the abdomen.

He says both officers were treated and are doing well and multiple inmates face additional charges.

ORIGINAL STORY: Allred Prison remains on lockdown this afternoon. This after two corrections officers were reportedly stabbed by multiple inmates.

Officials say that incident happened around 4 yesterday afternoon.

They say a sergeant, who's worked in the prison system since 2006, was standing near a doorway monitoring offender traffic when he was attacked by multiple offenders.

Those inmates reportedly had two homemade weapons they used to stab the sergeant.

He suffered 15 stab wounds to the front and back, including wounds to his head.

Additional correction officers tried to help and another officer was stabbed in the abdomen.

He was treated for his injury on scene. The sergeant was taken by ambulance to United Regional.

Thankfully none of the wounds he suffered were life threatening. He was treated and released after receiving multiple stitches.

The Office of the Inspector General for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is investigating the incident.

Officials say multiple inmates could be facing additional charges.

Again, Allred Unit remains on lockdown because of this incident and officials say there will be no offender movement until this incident is resolved.
