A car backing up on the turnpike early this morning was struck by a semi driven by an Altus man, killing the man in the car.

Highway Patrol says 63-year-old Phillip Prestriedge of Oklahoma city had stopped in the westbound lane of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike near Newcastle around 3 this morning. He then began backing up when his car was struck from behind by the tractor trailer driven by 64-year-old James Parker of Altus.

Prestriedge was pronounced dead at the scene with massive injuries. Parker was not injured. Troopers say both men were wearing seatbelts but neither vehicles' airbags deployed.
