A 26-year-old Altus man has been sentenced to prison for the stabbing death of a Snyder man in Kiowa County last year.

Forrest Barfield was sentenced Wednesday to 13 years for the death of 53-year-old Thomas Bell on October 2nd, 2013 outside a home in Snyder.

Police say the two men had been arguing and fighting and that Barfield stabbed Bell. He was pronounced dead at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Barfield was originally charged with first degree murder.

The jury deliberated about an hour before returning the verdict of guilty of manslaughter. His attorney has filed an intent to appeal the case.
