An amended Electra city charter is headed to Austin to be approved by the secretary of state.

Last fall, Electra resident, Sue Howell, who is now a city commissioner, gathered signatures to amend the city charter.

She wanted it to include "Initiative, Referendum and Recall" powers, which would allow voters to make changes, remove elected officials or call elections in unusual situations.

And last month Electra voters approved the change.

City administrator, Larry Pannell, says the charter was amended and sent yesterday to the secretary of state's office.

Pannell says it will take effect once it receives state approval.
