Archer City breaks ground on Walsh Park addition

ARCHER CITY, Texas - If you've spent some time in Archer City, you've probably taken a quick stop to look at the mural at the heart of the town by the visitor's center.

Right next to the special mural, a new park will take place. It will be dedicated to the Walsh Brother's, known for their legacy in Archer City.

On Friday, a few community leaders gathered for the groundbreaking of Walsh Park, a $100 thousand landscape project funded by TxDOT.

In Archer City, the Walsh Brothers were known for operating their service station- a longtime hotspot, now known as the city's visitor center. City leaders say this addition is another way to show Archer City's rich history.

"So I feel like today is an extension of completing what the vision the Walsh Family has and that is that this will become a little park area," 4B board member, secretary and treasurer Vicki Davis said. "It will house a story wall for Archer City and it will depict Archer City's history and I think that will be a real neat feature of it all."

Davis says she hopes the addition will enhance the downtown area and even bring people to enjoy their stay in Archer City. Resident Matthew Salim says the new park could reel in even more tourists.

"I think it's going to be really good, showing a little bit of the heritage from Archer City," Salim said. "I'm new to the area but the family has been around for nearly a hundred years."

Crews will hit the ground running on the park Friday afternoon, which they hope to complete in the next few months.
