Attorney General Greg Abbott Enters Texas Governor Candidacy

Surrounded by family, friends and thousands of supporters in San Antonio Sunday Afternoon, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott announced what many had already had been expecting.

His intentions to succeed Rick Perry as the next Governor of the state of Texas.

"Too often you hear about politicians who talk about having a spine of steel, I actually have one and I will use my steel spine to fight for you and protect your families every single day." Said Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

Abbott was elected Texas Attorney General back in 2002 and has defended a number of socially conservative causes in the past decade.

It's his overall operation within the position that's impressed his colleagues and local representatives.

"What I know about General Abbott I like, he runs a very good office as the Attorney General. He's surrounded himself with some sharp people and he's got a solid reputation in Austin." Said 69th District Representative James Frank.

While Abbott hasn't backed down from the big issues while Attorney General, which includes suing the Obama Administration over healthcare reform. Lawmakers say they'll be interested in his ability to institute policies for the state.

"I'm looking forward to finding out more about him during the campaign in terms of what his policies are, he has not been in a policy position as Attorney General, he's been in a law position." Said Frank.
