Bears on Patrol

Police officers are known to be tough, but thanks to a program funded by a grant from the Junior League, officers can show a softer, caring side to kids.

Wichita Falls Police will have teddy bears in their units to give to children who witness traumatic crimes or accidents.

The program is called "bears on patrol."

They hope the teddy bears show kids they care.

Unfortunately we do have to at times take police action in front of kids, but if we can reassure them that they are safe and that we are taking care of them, really a small simple thing like a teddy bear is going to make all the difference,” said Sgt. John Spragins.

"Bears on Patrol" is funded through a grant the Wichita Falls Police Academy applied for through the Junior League.

They now have more than 700 bears for the program.
