Bike Shops Work Hard on Bike Repairs for Hotter'N Hell

- As the Hotter'N Hell Hundred approaches, cyclists are in preparation mode before rolling into Wichita Falls, and local bike shops are reaping the benefits as business booms.

Bike shop owners says right now is the crucial time for riders with the ride just days away.

However, getting ready for the big event takes more than just a bike tune-up.

"The closer we get to Hotter'N Hell the busier we get," Austin Monson with the Bike Stop says.

Business has been picking up at the Bike Stop in Wichita Falls.

"The area that we keep all of the storage repair bikes in is pretty much standing room only, you can't really walk back there, when a customer comes in to pick up a repair bike it takes about 10 minutes for us to actually get it," Monson says.

Monson says they've been hard at work repairing bikes for riders who plan to brave the trails.

"The best thing that you can do at home to your bike is clean it," Monson says.

Turns out, keeping all areas of your bike clean is more important than you may think.

"Do your best to clean your drive train, clean the frame, clean off your wheels, just do your best to keep it clean. Because if a bike is consistently dirty parts will fail quicker then otherwise," Monson says.

Texoma's triple digit temperatures are also causing a lot of wear and tear on bikes. Monson says his shop has worked on 600 flat changes this year and he says the worse the drought gets, the more aggressive the stickers get.  So riders should definitely keep that in mind when they're riding this year.

Also, don't forget it's not to late to register for the Hotter'N Hell Hundred.

Online registration ends on Sunday, August 17th and registration by mail or fax is available through Friday, August 15th.

And late registration will begin next week.

And of course the big Hotter 'N Hell ride is Saturday, on the 23rd, and once again our team will be up bright and early to provide coverage of the big day starting at 6:30 that morning.
