Bingo Hall Officials Say Proposed W.F. Smoking Ban Will Devastate Business

- Wichita Falls health officials held their third and final meeting today on going smoke-free in city businesses. Friday's stakeholders meeting at the health district was with those in the bowling alley and bingo hall businesses.

Only three people showed up and all three were associated with Super Bingo, the city's only bingo hall. The trio was not happy about the push to go smoke free, saying most of their customers smoke while playing bingo. And they say if the proposal passes it will devastate their bottom lines.

"This will affect 80% of our customers.  If 80% of our customers left we wouldn't have a bingo hall.  So we need to have smoking in there," says Gene Buchanan, bingo adviser for several local charities.

Earlier this week health officials met with restaurants, bars, hotel and motel owners to discuss the perimeters of the proposed ban. Health officials plan to present their proposal to leaders during the June 3rd city council meeting and a vote could take place during the June 17th meeting.
