Joe Tom White has coordinated and promoted the Wichita Falls Gun and Knife Show for years.
And this bipartisan bill regarding gun control and gun shows has him all fired up.
Five times a year, vendors and visitors pack the MPEC for the Wichita Falls Gun and Knife Show, but a bipartisan bill put together by Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Republican Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, could holster this popular show.
"I'm really interested in this particular part of it as a promoter of the gun show cause I feel like it will close us down. I don't think you'll have federal agents coming in closing us down. I think you'll find us saying we give up cause if you want to come in and sell some of your private stock it's too much paperwork. You've got to register this and that so you just won't come," says Joe Tom White, coordinator and promoter of the Wichita Falls Gun and Knife Show.
The gun and knife show provides a big economic boost to the local economy.
For the MPEC, it generates an annual sum of more than $12,000 along with 100% of the concession sales.
And the thousands of visitors and vendors to those shows pump thousands into the local hotel and restaurant industry.
While the show is still going strong, the bill that could stop the show is being closely monitored.
"I think it's a lot of smoke and no fire. Well just have to wait and see," says White.
Congressman Mac Thornberry had this to say about the plan.
He says "...(He) won't support any additional restrictions on law abiding citizen's rights to keep and bear arms."
Thornberry also said as of noon today no one had seen the language of the bill so a lot about it remains unknown.
