Bowie No Longer Under Mandatory Water Restrictions

Last week's good rain is helping one Texoma town's water situation.

Because Lake Amon Carter rose about 3 feet from a month ago, Bowie has moved from stage 2 mandatory water restrictions to stage 1 voluntary restrictions. And, residents are now only encouraged to water on the even/odd address schedule instead of being required to follow it. Bowie would not ban all outdoor watering until stage 4.

Lake Amon Carter rose to more than 913 feet on Monday after the area received more than 5 inches of rain last week. And, that's up to 57.9 percent capacity from more than 910 feet and 43.2 percent capacity a month ago.

The city is urging residents to continue to conserve, though, because the lake level is only about a half foot above the mandatory restriction level.
