Burn Ban Could be in Place Starting Tuesday
Wichita County Commissioners will use part of their meeting Tuesday to discuss a burn ban.
The ban would not allow campfires or trash burning within county limits for at least 90 days.
If the burn ban passes, it would go into effect immediately.
Wichita County Judge Woody Gossom requested the burn ban be put on the agenda after watching the weather conditions as we roll into the summer months.
He says with the drought, fires are not the only reason they are considering the burn ban.
"With the amount of wind, the amount of fuel from the intermittent rain that we've had, we want to try to do things , we're all concerned about fires but we're also concerned about the amount of water it takes to put a fire out,"says Gossom.
Judge Gossom says people should be proactive to help avoid fires when grilling or working outside by keeping water close by.
If you have questions or concerns about the possible burn ban you can attend the County Commissioner's meeting Tuesday at 10 a.m.
