Case dismissed after defendant dies

A sexual assault of a child case in Wichita County has been dismissed after the defendant was pronounced dead.

According to an obituary presented in court. 27-year-old Jerad Jay Priz passed away on July 26th.

He had been indicted by a grand jury on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in February.
According to the arrest affidavit, the girl had told Priz that she was sixteen and maybe they should wait to have intercourse until she was 17.

When interviewed she said he told her they should just go ahead and have sex in secret and that when she became of age they could run away together.

Her mother reported the alleged assault to the clay county sheriff's office after she says she discovered her daughter had been visiting him at his home in Electra. 

The cause of death has not been released.
