WICHITA FALLS - El Dia de Los Muertos is a celebration of life in the Hispanic culture that honors lost loved ones.

The first day of the dead event is kicking off Friday night with an art show at 9th Street Studios from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The artist from the show has worked for over 30 years and specializes mainly in figure and portrait paintings and says he pulled the figures from history, pop culture, and urban legends.

"I've always been impactedDia dia de Los Muertos, so it just gave me an excuse to, okay, I really love this holiday. It really impacts me in the way they embrace death," Artist Jeff Brame said. "I choose females for this series because i kind of want to elevate women in painting and beauty."

The festival starts Saturday at 4 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. on Travis Street. There will be traditional mexican food, choreographed dancers and several activies for the whole family.
