Two teams lined the diamond.
As an American tune rang out.
Then the first pitch.
But Thursday evening there would be no score to keep track of and no winner at the end.
“There is definitely a gap and there is a space that can't be replaced but we have to find a way to fill it,” said a teammate of Lane's at East Central University, Ethan Gold.
To fill the hole not just on the field, but in their hearts for their Australian teammate who always kept his team's spirits up.
“His voice projected, and it was very distinct with that Australian accent. We loved it. He made us laugh anytime he said anything whether he was serious or whether he was joking,” Gold said.
“Most energetic person I have ever met in my life, always a funny guy, never down about anything,” said Kendall Emerson, who played with Lane at Redlands Community College.
The game was for Chris Lane. who played in the Oklahoma City area for both Redlands Community College and East Central University.
Each team wearing his school jersey, showing just how big of an impact he made.
“Lane spent all of his games lifting us up and today is a good day to lift him up,” said Gold.
And with each play they did. Remembering their teammate and friend who always swung them in the right mood.
Tonight's game was free for all to attend, but donations were collected.
All the money will go to a scholarship for a Duncan High School student.
