City Applying for Grants in Hopes of Finishing Circle Trail

WICHITA FALLS, TX - The city is applying for three grants through the Texas Department of Transportation -- that could help finish up the city's Circle Trail.

The Circle Trail would go around the city of Wichita Falls -- a total of around 24 miles and so far, 18 miles of the trail is complete.

The three grants would help fund the following gaps: between Loop 11 to Lucy Park, the right of way along Barnett Road and Seymour Highway, which is owned Burlington Northern Railway, and finally part of the trail along the shore of Lake Wichita.

The parks and recreation director, Jack Murphy, said he is hopeful that the city will be awarded all three of the grants.

"I'm confident that we'll get one of the grants, but that's entirely up to TxDOT. We'll put in our best application. We've got great folks putting it together," Murphy said.

The city council signed off to allow the city manager to send out these applications that are due by May 22.
