WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) - Wichita Falls City Councilors awarded a contract for their annual water budget utility improvements project.
Five bids were in the running for the project, which was awarded to Bowles Construction for $1.5 million. The project will include the installation of six-inch waterlines and dead-end main improvements across the city.
"When we have a water leak, the water has to be turned off," Wichita Falls Public Works Director Russell Schreiber said. "People lose water service for a certain period of time, so it improves the overall reliability of our system."
Construction for the project would include the replacement of deteriorating cast iron and steel water mains to eliminate dead-end mains.
The total budget for the project is $1.6 million.
