City Crews Continue Cleaning up Ice Chat

- Wichita Falls street crews spread more than 100 tons of ice chat on roads during last week's ice storm.

Now comes the meticulous part: cleaning up all those pellets.

Crews have spent the last several days cleaning up the ice chat on the roads.

That clean-up continued today.

Officials say the ice chat is helpful when it's needed, but once it's done doing its job, it's time for it to go!

Larry Krugle, Wichita Falls street superintendent, says, "It's really a benefit for the snow and ice control times when you need it, but it quickly becomes a bad thing afterwards because of the dust and everything else. I mean, it's not hazardous or something, but it's just kind of a nuisance."

Krugle says it's important to clean up the chat so it doesn't get in storm drainage systems because it can clog them up.

It will take workers about a month to get all the chat off the streets.

And once picked up, they drop it at the landfill.
