City Manager to Make WFFD Chief Recommendation

- A new Wichita Falls fire chief could be chosen as early as Tuesday.

City Manager Darron Leiker plans to make a recommendation for the Wichita Falls Fire Department chief position at Tuesday's city council meeting.

Leiker will make that recommendation to councilors who would then have to approve it before that candidate would be offered the job.

Leiker says 43 people applied for the position.

City staff narrowed those applicants down to about six who were called in for interviews.

Former chief Earl Foster retired in March after being with the department for 31 years.

Chief Jon Reese is now serving as interim chief.

He applied for the permanent chief position.
