Fireworks will not be lighting up the skies over the City of Vernon on July 4th.

Vernon city manager, Mitch Grant, says the city chose to not host a fireworks show because of time.

He says those types of shows must be booked several months in advance and several months ago, a burn ban was still in effect for Wilbarger County.

Although commissioners lifted that ban last week, Grant says there simply isn't enough time to organize a show for Independence Day.

Fireworks can be used in Wilbarger County but officials say you can face a fine up to $500 if you're caught using rockets with fins and missiles with sticks.
