Dozens of people in Wichita Falls are joining in an organized effort to defeat the WFISD bond proposal, and now they are speaking out on the reasons they think you should vote no.
The group says they are for progress, education and teachers, and they say this $125 million bond would be a mistake if it passes.
The community for a better bond says voting for the proposed school bond would be like voting for a piece of poor legislation.
“It began as a great idea and there are so many great ideas in the bond, and it goes into a committee just like in Austin, but when it comes out there are a few of those good ideas left and there is a big elephant attached to it,” said Craig Reynolds, Community for a Better Bond leader.
He says the elephant, are two key points; Consolidation and location.
“The research shows that that's not best for our students especially for the low socioeconomic students, a good number of our students in our community our low-income students,” said another group leader, Robin Scales.
Members also say the large high school should not be put at memorial stadium which is on the southwest part of the community, they say it should be at a central location.
Elizabeth Yeager, a candidate running for the WFISD Board of Trustee at Large position sat in on the media conference and says location is the main reason she's against the bond.
Bill Franklin, another candidate against the bond also sat in on the conference says his concern is the price tag.
Overall, the Community for a Better Bond says there is not enough detailed information on what changes will come, should the bond pass.
“Even at the CTE [Career and Technology Center], if you look at the website it says programs such as, I am really interested to know what are you proposing so I know what I am voting for,” said Scales.
Group leaders say they hope this bond does not pass and the school board begins crafting another bond, but as to what that other bond looks like they don't have many ideas.
