Some Texomans have found a simple way to make every drop count.

Many air conditioner units produce condensation that just drips outside homes or businesses through a PVC pipe.

One resident says he collects 2-3 gallons of water a day from his air condition unit, just by putting a milk jug under the pipe.

"Walk around the outside of your house, take a look at your pipes, see if you've got some that's dripping water on the outside, usually a white pvc pipe that's coming out, just find it, stick a little something under it," says  Clayton Lane.

Lane then waters his plants and trees with the water, a use health officials say is safe.

“Yea on your yard to water your plants, anything that's not going to be consumed by the public itself health district,” says Lou Kreidler with the Health Department.

Kreidler says that water is also not allowed in pools..even if the water is being treated.
