Last night, family members of victims in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting spoke out for tighter gun control.
Today that keeps the heated gun control debates rolling in Washington.
13th District Congressman Mac Thornberry stopped by our KFDX studios this morning and weighed in on the gun control debate.
He says he's against gun control legislation.
"If you think about what happened in that horrible school shooting, no new law would have prevented that guy from shooting his mother, stealing her guns, going into a gun-free zone, and shooting those innocent, beautiful little children," Thornberry said.
Thornberry does say, however, that lawmakers need to look at improvements that can be made in background checks.
But as far as keeping guns away, he says it's wrong and won't help. Thornberry says for gun owners, having a gun isn't about being violent, it's about protecting one's self.
